Limit the training?

My fathers dog wanders off the property. We have 80 acres. The house is on the edge of the property, if the property line is 100yards home. It is the only place where she goes. It can not hurt, it's all trees of this way. She is a shepherd and we want to teach him to stay with his flock not wonderin the opposite direction of it. Yes, it is closed but the former style of fencing wire that drags a bit less. Electric shock collars or underground fences are not an option. It does not use these methods. Again she can not get hurt out there, we do not want it because it is not our property.

Obviously, with the property of this size, more fencing will not cut it. And while I try to be tolerant of all the answers, repeating stuff Cesar Millan on "Pack" and is leading off base here. Yeah, it's more of a problem if it not livestock. So my take is not on the border, but awareness raising rather than skills. 3. This would help see if there is something on land adjacent which could be its attraction. But my suggestion would be to work with her on her skills in animal husbandry. You can actually compete in this area. And there are a variety of resources (books, web sites, even videos) on site to work on these skills. I think is a common mistake for people to think that because they have a breed of livestock, therefore, it is not necessary instruction. Check out the American Herding Breed Association.
