Necklaces vs. harness for small dog?
I am the proud new owner of a mixture of Malta. It will not be a show dog so it will be kept in a puppy cut. I have never owned such a small dog and am not sure whether or not a necklace and leash or harness and leash is the best for him. He has no manners left (do not tell the school of obedience He has been there with the owners before and it didn't work that we were advised to work with him on our own authority to develop a severe on him before coming in so we'll go, but not now). Please do not listen to these people telling you a necklace is better in a harness. If you can not decide who be trusted on this point, talk to your vet they will tell you a harness. Many smaller dogs can have a very serious, and unfortunately any common health problem called collapsing trachea. It leads them to start coughing and gagging, some may even feint not enough oxygen brain. The pass put pressure on their trachea, and can often worsen or cause completely. Remember, small dogs have tiny, of britle bones, including the trachea. A necklace can do much harm a small dog. I had a dog who had a serious case of collapsing trachea, and it is exacerbated by the use on a pass from me. I went to the vet, and also conducts research, both told me to take harness. She stops to put pressure on their necks (where the trachea). A call to a veterinarian is remember it's free! And incidentally, for training, much time you have to yank the leash to control your swing on walking dogs, etc. This is when most damage to their trachea may occur. This is most obvious sense, I'm sure you see it. Good luck and congrats on the puppy!
