Of all breeds of dogs one of the fluffiest and cutest is the American Eskimo puppy. It is from the Spitz family and considered Nordic race. When brought to America its name was changed to the American Eskimo dog. It was originally linked to the white German Spitz. The origin, they changed the name because, after the First World War, there were widespread anti-German sentiments. They are now considered as two distinct races, but both very closely linked.
There is evidence that "White Spitz" has also been introduced to America by German immigrants. The studbook was closed by the North American Eskimo Dog Association in 1969. To win acceptance in the AKC, The American Eskimo Dog Club of America was founded in 1985.
On 1 July 1995, the American Eskimo Dog was accepted for the AKC in the Non-Sporting Group. There are three sizes of the breed, standard, miniature and of course, toys. The standard size will reach a height of 15 to 19 inches, and weigh between 18 and 35 pounds. A thumbnail will be 12-15 cm in height and weighs 10-20 pounds. A toy dog will be 9-12 inches tall and weigh six to ten pounds.
Being a small or medium size dog American Eskimo dog is well balanced, compact dog of Nordic type. When walking or running, you will see a smooth appearance. The dog is also very alert. There are very distinctive black spots on the dogs face. They are around the eye rims, lips and nose. The ears are also items are black and triangular in shape and stand up.
The coat is double. The under coat composed of dense short hairs. The outer coat grows through the undercoat with long hairs. This gives the dog a double layer. As a puppy of the American Eskimo is a little on the conservative side but is generally friendly. They are very intelligent and very alert. If it is demonstrated they can be penalized for either aggressive or overly shy. If you want a guard dog he is a good race, thanks his wit, they will bark when someone approaches. They are not general threaten to bite or attack people, but they are protective of their area and the family. It is quick and eager to learn new tricks.
