Today Yorkshire Terrier is a very different dog than when the breed appeared in 1865. In just over one hundred years, the size has been greatly reduced with an average weight thirty pounds a mere seven pounds today. And the trend is that the Yorkie (as the breed is affectionately called) get even smaller, with adults tip the scales in just three pounds. But who knows? Perhaps in future there will be a demand for the Yorkshire Terrier to grow again in the thirty-pound dog.
Like many breeds of dogs, the name does not reflect their point of origin. For example, German shepherds were actually developed in France. And pastors originated in Australia United States. The geographical difference is not that great, but it is still significant. The main action today is delicate, adorable and pampered Yorkshire Terrier came from the landscape relentless in Scotland.
The Yorkshire Terrier does not originate in the country of English in Yorkshire, despite its name. The breed became famous when he perfected in Yorkshire. Huddersfield Ben Scottish ancestors came from different breeds of terriers bit harsh, which is believed to have included the Scottish Terrier, the Clydesdale (or Clyde) Terrier and the Paisley Terrier. Were a success on both sides of the Atlantic. Not only are great guard dogs, but affectionate and do not need much exercise. They were introduced to America in 1872.
During the past century, Yorkshire Terriers have become increasingly small. The original Yorkies were about thirty pounds and came in various colors. Yorkies show today would be no more than three kilos and must be steel blue and tan (and have those colors in specific ratios). The trend is the superior race Yorkies that tip the scales at three pounds, which has led to concerns about the health of breeding these small dogs. The Yorkshire Terrier, from 2006, is the second most popular dog breed in America.
