While most hunters to buy a dog from a breeder bird, often dogs birds may be purchased from an owner private. While buying from a private seller, can be riskier, with a little research it may be a good experience.

Just because a bird dog for sale from a private seller, does not mean that the dog is worthless, or can not drive. There are several reasons a dog may be for sale, often because the hunter is simply unable to drive more, whether bodily, or because he is relocating. Many people want a bird dog to be able to do what he does best, hunt, and if they are unable considered hunting they want to find someone who can. Do not forget to ask why the dog is for sale, but ask gently. Some otherwise the dog may be for sale may be the personal and often the dog is sold by a widow.
