These are difficult economic times. Many are struggling to make ends meet has meet. Unfortunately, often the first things to go are pets. Family

Today more than ever, the shelters are busting at the seams with unwanted animals. Some other surrendered. are abandoned; found tied to trees in backyards, chained to tables picnic in the park, enclosed in foreclosed homes, submerged in dog parks or "uptown."

Rescues and shelters working with time, doing their best to find loving homes for dogs, they have, knowing that there are thousands more waiting in line.it They should be your first choice when looking for a new Pet.

By all means, stay away from pet shops that sell puppies. The preponderance of puppies in pet shops are a bad performance, unsanitary, overcrowded puppy mills. There is no regard for the health and emotional well-being of animal. Their only goal to make a buck to the detriment of their breeding lot!  countless puppies acquired by pet shops have a sensitivity to the serious health problems behavior.

When considering a new pet, visit your local shelters and rescues. The 3 age groups the most common dogs in rescues and shelters, with patience and waiting hopefully be rescued or adopted are: puppies, young adults, and seniors. Â

Puppies are often 8 weeks to 9 months old. Nearly all are there because their parents were not responsible they cared for. were not spayed or neutered and many are the result of negligence, accidental breeding. Lots of puppies have not received pre-natal care they need and May after issues. Health

Dogs are young adults in the 10 months to 24 months of age group.it Many dogs in this age group are abandoned or surrendered due to problems of inappropriate behavior, lack of obedience training or changes in lifestyle of their owners.Â

Last but not least, those are wonderful dogs that are greater than 8 years and scores older. Older dogs are made, their owners are too old or too ill to care for them, or they died. Unfortunately, no one in Family wants them.es They are often the pet's most loyal and grateful!

Let's face it, most people, research a new dog, revolve around puppies. They have their pros and Cons

Puppy advantages are:

  1. They are a "clean slate ... usually they are young enough to correct the behavior problems of inappropriate behavior or quickly.

Disadvantages are:

  1. Time consuming ... They require constant supervision at all times!
  2. No obedience training - short attention span, and they are often more difficult to form
  3. Need house breaking training
  4. Chewing, digging, nipping, jumping and other inappropriate behavior

Pros Young adults are the following:

  1. Usually home is broken
  2. Usually have some obedience training; longer attention span for training, but they may have problems with inappropriate behavior, which must be corrected first
  3. Do not generally require constant monitoring

Disadvantages are following:

  1. May not be the broken home
  2. May have obedience and or questions inappropriate behaviors such as jumping, biting, digging, barking, begging, unreasonable fears, and running away, just to name a few.
  3. May need constant supervision

Senior pros dogs are:

  1. Usually quiet
  2. Usually more gentle with children and the elderly
  3. Usually most grateful and ready if please
  4. Usually have some obedience training; longer attention span, and love to learn new things
  5. Tend House Broken
  6. Do not generally require constant monitoring

Cons are:

  1. May be inappropriate behavior, such as obtaining the furniture, begging or barking
  2. May not be comfortable around children, if not exposed to them when the youngest
  3. May have age-related health problems

Whatever age you are installing on is a decision. Personal However, before adopting or rescuing a new dog, make sure you do your studies homework. the advantages and disadvantages of race you want in.a Be informed of the size, temperament, health issues, grooming needs, learning capacity, compatibility with other animals and children, and this breed. longevity Check rescues. with specific breed Doing a little research this could avoid a lot of heartache for you and your dog, race should not be compatible with your lifestyle.

Be realistic self and Avoid animal. adoption around Try holidays. adoption when you're on vacation, or have a long weekend. so that you can give the dog time and attention they need. Allow at least 90 days to adjust to each other.Â

Your dog needs time to acclimate to his nine surroundings. too often, people do not allow enough time for transition. Find a local coach applying positive reinforcement, punishment WITHOUT training. Join a Puppy kindergarten or obedience classes as soon as possible to learn to be an effective pack leader. Be firm fair and consistent with the rules and expectations. Set yourself and your dog up for a healthy environment, relationship. mutually enriching Be A fair. invest time and energy to make it work!

Keep in mind, when decide on your next dog ... mix breeds make wonderful pets and often have fewer health problems specific to race!
