During a recent trip to the animal shelter when our family decided to adopt a dog, we found the perfect match for our family. It was a great mixture of races and although we were not sure of the race, we knew from the moment we laid the eyes on him, he would fill our home with joy. There was one aspect of our dog that his club apart from the rest away, Sparky only had three legs.

It turned out that a car accident was the result of the knee amputation. Although we never raised a pet that was missing a limb, we were confident that a trip to the local veterinarian and a little research should give us all information we needed to provide a loving home.

Why do we have to amputate?

This was our first question when we took him to the vet local - we thought the experience would give the answers we needed. We were curious to know how and why amputations. Surprisingly, not many dogs are born with limb amputations. The diseases most common cause of amputations canines were bone cancer, and could be extremely painful for the dog. Although it may be difficult for the owner to make a decision amputation, it is the best option for the dog to relieve pain and suffering.

Other less common reasons a dog would have a leg amputated included car accidents, abuse or neurological disorders. Rarely, a dog is born with a missing member.

Three-legged dog often live content without their fourth step. After a period of recovery, the dog learns to deal with three legs and others may not even noticed that the dog is missing a fourth. It can be a traumatic experience for owners and dogs, as we wonder Pain and suffering that the dog may have in our decision to amputate. Each moment is suggested amputation, it is suggested that the best option and therefore helps, rather than preventing the dog.

Mental and Physical recoveries happen quickly

In the case of amputation, it is important to accept that the member has been lost. Of course, this does not happen overnight, but each must pass from the trauma and begin the path of healing. It is not uncommon in a human case - and although most of us know not May an amputee personally, we all read or seen stories of a television special on the subject.

The animals are more resistant than humans, especially in the case of a member to be amputated. Recovery time can take as little as one week before the dog is mentally recovered. Of course, trauma physical may continue as the dog learns to walk on three legs, but even limping or hopping eventually disappear. Each dog comes to the character they incorporated before the amputation.
