The artist included a small toy dog in front of a monkey in the foreground painting.
The summary table is a small white shaggy dog that could be a bichon or a Maltese terrier sitting quietly under a table simply observing what is happening, but not taking part. HOW CUTE!
Artists have always been the registrar of his own time. The artists tell us something about dogs that are still with us, as well as those who appear to be lost to us today. In one of Titian paintings made before the de Velours, included a dog if the animal that exists today, it would look glamorous, long haired Italian greyhound. Once again I have to wonder if maybe some of these models of famous dogs in these paintings are just the minds of the creators of painting and not the dogs that really existed in his time. On the other hand, might have been only an exceptional case and not the rule of the particular time. Personally I have not seen this picture, have only read about others and himself, but I must admit that the Italian greyhound every stranger would be shorter ears.
It has been said that one of the most attractive pictures of an Italian greyhound was one that appears in the picture 'The Earl of Northampton "by Pompeo Battoni in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. He was a great size for his period in the mid eighteenth century. At this time the Italian Greyhound was truly miniaturized. The portrait is said to be a beautiful copy, with all the elegance and grace of the breed.
