Irish Wolfhound Breeders?
Since I was little, I wanted an Irish Wolfhound. They are so beautiful! Now, I finally did move to the country (10 acres! Yeah!) And so have room for such a giant. Only problem is ... as they cost $ 1500! I not need a dog that has a lineage better than me. Does anyone know a place where I could find a wolf-dog who is NOT AKC? Maybe shelter or place for adoption? I mean, I'm willing to pay this sum ... but if I did not! Oh, and there must be a puppy.
I have two greyhounds from Ireland, I am an officer of our Club statewide Irish Wolfhound, and there are some things to consider here. $ 1500 is actually not bad, I never paid this little for a good race IW. You can find mixes, but finding thoroughbreds that are cheap are very rare. They are or puppy mills / backyard dog breeders with questionable health and temperament, or are dogs with lots of problems. According to the state, you can pay more than $ 1,500 for a pet with the quality of papers. The rescue in our state is very aggressive thoroughbred out of shelters and their waiting list Wolfhound experienced owners, who have always preferred placement. So, you're lucky to find in shelters. As giants they have a shorter lifespan. Good breeders focus on that and see a lot more longevity in their lines accordingly. The average life shall be published 7 years, but most breeders today claim May have averaged closer to 10 years. It hurts to lose, just like any dog, but they give you prices over the long term worth. Nice that you have plenty of room. However, they thrive in apartments too. The only thing around them matters to them is you. And they like it if there is a sofa nearby.
If you want your first experience Wolfhound to be a good (and I say first because no one) I would go ahead and connect with a reputable breeder who mentor you throughout the lifetime of the dog, pay the money, and embrace the race. Before you do know many others with IW and many more options for young puppies and future and the knowledge to avoid getting a puppy problem. And you'll have a much better chance of rescue once you're experienced race owner and breeder have references.
