Any dog owner who seeks an answer to the question - "How do I prevent my dog to eat?" Has one two scenarios: one, they have a sick dog on your hands, or both, they have been trained very well by their dogs.

As with most negative behaviors exposed by your dog - and being a picky eater is one of them - you need to first rule out any health problem with a trip to your veterinarian. Assuming that your dog receives a certificate of good health, you will need to retrain your dog.

If you buy this one truism - and you should - a healthy dog will not starve, your task is very simple. Just wait him out. Put the food down its feeding time up. Give him fifteen to thirty minutes to eat. If it has not touched feeding, remove it until the next feeding time. This means no food - including trafficking - until next feeding rolls around. There you have. If I stopped here, I'm confident, I have contributed to 95% of households have a dog that is temperamental. But it would not make much an article, and I do not feel obliged to address the remaining 5% out there who can not bear the thought of deliberately "starving" their beloved dog to death.

Like most other fitness training dog, working with a puppy is a little easier with an older dog, which established behavior, negative or otherwise, as a result of his past life. A rescue dog with an unknown history may have been fed table scraps, or too often fed to his race and size, or fed with a very irregular schedule. All this will make your job a little more difficult because May really test your courage. Personally, this is advice that has proved easier for me to give than take. In past not too distant past, I often gave in and fed my dogs save a concoction of dog food with some of the food people. But, it is in the past for me, and I hope you can avoid or break this problem in itself.

Another escape during this "test of wills "is to refrain from trying all the care of dogs tasty food on supermarket shelves. Paste food your vet recommends for your dog or you will be in the same brine not too far down the road. If your dog tire of his food it may well used to turn up his nose again until it is recycled to try another brand. Eating too much variety encourages finicky and can also cause digestive problems. Keep in mind the adage that unites finicky eaters are made, not born. And More importantly, they can all be defeated. Expect it!

Be sure not to reinforce the negative behavior of your dog hovering above him, cajole him, pleading or begging him to eat. This attention feeds right into his intention to break you. Once you remove the food intact, ignore any the situation as he did not even exist.

Another bad habit to avoid - do not talk yourself to solve the problem by allowing your dog to become a vegetarian. It is, simply by leaving a bowl of your dog on the floor until the food disappears. Really, this serves neither you nor your dog well. Dogs such as calendars and thrive on routines. If you do not create one, it will do for you, and begin the process to assume other features of Alpha Dog. Your job is to remind the hours are really nice, especially when it's yours. Expect it!

Several warnings

Be on the lookout for family members may not have the same intentions as you, and fall the temptation to squeeze your dog treats. All your efforts will be futile. Give a treat every time your dog does something cute can certainly create finicky eating habits. Treats should not exceed 10% of the total dietary intake of your dog.

Do not give your dog the opportunity to become a marauder "garbage" during this training period. Make sure trash is secure and there no food left within reach on tables, TV trays, or towers. Hopefully it goes without saying, but do not let your dog is walking the neighborhood. No doubt he will find some food or some similar facsimile during his tour.

Some breeds are more prone finicky eating then others. German shepherds are likely to top the list, followed by several smaller breeds like Chihuahuas, Yorkies, Bichon Frize, Pomeranians, Toy Poodles and Maltese. Owner of this type and your road ahead may be a little more difficult. But not impossible by any stretch.

To summarize:

Make sure your dog is healthy
This is a simple test of wills
Do not fall prey to these sad eyes
Avoid snacks between meals
Stick with a variety of nutritious foods
Secure all trash and make sure no food is at hand
Keep your dog at home and not move freely and recovery
Put the food out at feeding time, give him 15 to 30 minutes to eat, if not eaten, remove it and wait until the next time the power
And, above all, wait him out!
