The Fila Brasileiro (or Brazilian Mastiff) is a great working dog breed developed in Brazil. Interestingly, the Mastiff, at one point in the history of race and country; was used to track and capture runaway slaves.

The Fila Brasileiro is believed to have been developed from a number of races, mainly the Mastiff, the Bulldog and the Bloodhound (the last contribution to the race loose skin).

Not surprisingly, the ancestors of this dog included bloodhounds, mastiffs and Bulldogs European origin. The result of this breeding is a dog that has the incredible ability to sniff out the hound and the amazing fearless power of a mastiff. Like their cousins, the English Mastiff and others, is a big dog. Your joints in good condition allowed them to change direction or stop on a dime in a fraction of second.

The Brazilian Mastiff can be a ferocious guard dog, bred to actually distrust and dislike stranger. This combination makes this right dog for defending the cattle ranches of the Minas Gerais region.

The Brazilian Mastiff male weighs between 160 and 230 pounds and is in the region 30 inches tall. Whereas the female is slightly smaller. It weighs about 90 pounds with a height ranging from 24 to almost 28 inches.

This the mastiff breed can be prone to health problems such as obesity, bone cancer, and hip dysphasia.

If tyou have taken the Brazilian Mastiff and are thinking of owning one. So all I can say is beware. Because they are known for their self-assured, but the fiery temperament and sometimes may become uncontrollable.

Brazilian Mastiffs are not suitable for the life of the city or busy households where no family members come and go as they please. These dogs are very brave and training firms in order to avoid excessive aggression and to promote calm and obedient behavior.

This breed of Mastiff can be very loyal and affectionate with family members and instinctively (and wildly) protects your family from all strangers. It is estimated that one of the top ten guard dogs of all time.

This is a very intelligent animal, and sometimes give you the impression that they have a docile temperament. They have a tendency to bark infrequently, but surprisngly are aware of everything going on around them.
