The Saluki is one of the noblest of all dogs, and one of the oldest, being many hundreds of years, and probably thousands. It is considered the original strain that causes many in the west emerged. This breed is considered by many to be the oldest the world and is considered the oldest purebred dog in recorded history.
The Saluki is the royal dog of Egypt and may be as old as human civilization. Their mummified bodies were found next to the Pharaohs and their images appear in Egyptian tombs dating 2100 BC. Sculptures of dogs greyhound-type race with distinctive feathered ears, legs and tail were even found in Sumerian ruins dated around 7000 BC
The Saluki resembles the Greyhound in size and has been called the Persian Greyhound.
