The Billy is a French dog believed to have been the product of the foster care line in the 19th century among the three most ancient breeds of hunting dogs French which are now extinct, the Lary, Ceris and Montembeufs. He is unique in that these races of the French Hounds is the offspring were true and there is blood in the mix Foxhound. The other races that bear the stamp of the ancient French hounds extinct include the Poitevin and Grand Bleu Gascogne. Its creator, MG Hublot du Revault packhound who wished to produce a would deer only. The resulting dog, Billy, is a packhound but not the kind that will take care of the fox, because at the top (23-26 inches at the shoulder) thin-looking and very fast and has the instinctive desire to hunt deer. The race is named after the Billy Castle, the home of his creator, in Poitou.

The Billy is a smart and naturally quick Hound, built for speed and looks of your body more sensitive than that of the Foxhound. It was near extinction after World War, but was revived a package with the remaining Billies and the addition of the Poitevin Hound Harrier and blood to keep the gene pool strong. The resulting race continues with the original name, but it is very rare even in France, and is rarely seen in the International Dog Show circuit. The Billy is a member of the Gundog Group under FCI

The color of the Billy is a beautiful pale lemon yellow with some spots of deep orange. He wears a short dense layer. He is aristocratic in appearance, not on all side. The nose is long and the mouth is not as deep as the foxhound. Despite having the typical dog-eared, which are set to head higher have not been dropped or the sad so often associated with the hound breeds. The temperament of the Billy is the packhound, always ready to give chase. He is said to have a quality of light and melodic trumpet to his barking that the change in tone and nature according to the proximity and size of the game pursued.

The standard Billy needs a height of 23-26 cm and a weight of 55-60 pounds. From this description one can assume that the dog is not a heavyweight in appearance. He is more like a dog which should appear in the elegant stature. Like many hunting dogs type of packaging, this dog is content to be an outdoor dog. He is not a race that remains as a pet, but is placed as a dog pack and is very happy to be in a kennel situation.
