Should I take my dog aggressive return to the shelter?

I adopted a mixed breed dog (which was about 1 year) 5 years ago from a no-kill shelter. His behavior has always been a problem, but it continues to get worse and worse. It is aggressive towards other dogs, strangers, friends and myself. His outbursts occur with little provocation. (Eg: she scolded him and tried to bite me, This morning when I passed by on the way to the bathroom). She has bitten me several times before. She barks and growls ferociously in a way that makes Cujo look cuddly. I tried training classes (we were asked to leave because of his behavior), consulted a veterinarian, read books, followed the Dog Whisperer w / Devotion, etc., all my efforts did not pay off. My dog has no respect for me or anyone. I like him but 'm getting scared! I really fear it will hurt me or someone else. I know I'm riddled w / guilt if I am standing his back, but I also fear lawsuits and injuries. Help! Any advice?

I know you ask this because even with the worst behavior, we still love them. This dog has a behavior very seriously and / or mental problems. It has to do with, however, she has been socialized or not socialized, abused, neglected, so before you got it. It may be too late to help at this point. My best recommendation would be to contact a board certified Veterinary behaviorist for the views and / or assistance, or have her humanely euthanized. Taking her back to the shelter and who may be his hurt someone else is simply not an ethical option.
