Without doubt one of the most annoying issues for owners is a dog that is a chronic charlatan. These dogs seem to bark at anything and everything and not stop barking, even when the threat or event. While chronic or excessive barking is often associated with small dogs all sizes and breeds of dogs may become chronic barkers under the right set of conditions.
What makes a dog bark?
Initially, the puppies and dogs bark for attention, notify owners of a stranger or an unusual event, or to defend themselves and their property. Most owners appreciate a dog that barks when a stranger to notify approaches or there is a knock at the door. Problems start to happen when the dog does not disengage from the activity of bark, even if corrected. Some chronic barkers will stop, even if removed from the courtroom and continue even if you place the outer crust.
Usually dogs that have a problem with this behavior began to barking because they were bored or received attention for barking. Recall that for a dog all the attention is good, even if negative. Therefore, when a dog is bored, lacks care and bark and cried, he or she quickly learns that barking draws human attention, which is exactly what he or she wants. Once this pattern has been established that it is harder to fix than catching it early and stop it as it develops.
Working with a puppy or dog
Puppies are often very cute when they bark and owners do little to correct the barking. Once a little more the problem becomes more troublesome, but by then the behavior is established. If you want to have a watchdog consider using the following method:
When the stranger's house or yard and the puppy or dog barks, immediately praise the puppy. After one or two barks say, a "Enough" or "Stop" and immediately give them a toy or chew item distract them from barking. As soon as you take the toy and praise to stop paying attention to quiet behavior.
If the puppy or dog is barking and does have a toy consider giving them a food treat. Once more praise as soon as the dog is quiet after giving the verbal command.
Spend playtime with the puppy and pay attention when you are silent.
Never yell or hit your puppy dog to stop barking. This will only increase anxiety level of the puppies and lead to more barking or aggressive behavior further, such as biting or fleeing.
A squirt bottle filled with tap water can also be used to stop the puppy barking, but this should only be used if other methods fail. Again, the word "enough" or a "stop" must be applied before the water bottle, and immediately the dog should be praised when he or she is sitting or standing quietly beside you.
For dogs or puppies chronic barking when the owner is absent on account of supplying more toys and activities for the dog. Besides taking for a long walk or play with them to stimulate further before leaving them alone. Try to make the time away from home as short as possible and praise the dog when you come home and all is quiet.
Being as consistent as possible if you are trying to train or correct a dog barking. I always respond the same way of barking. Dogs become very confused if one day they are allowed to bark and other days that negative attention for barking. Always pay attention to the dog when it is quiet or behaving properly and spend more time exercising and playing with the dog or puppy to make sure they will be tired and relaxed when away from home.
