Delicious cocoa shell mulch. Sounds good, does not it? Well there are some company that make this delicious smell of chocolate cocoa shell mulch, which smells great and dogs just love it. In fact, they love it so much that the dogs have been known to Chow Down to 4 cups of it before it is completed. How we know that? Easy.
After two in Chicago, suddenly found their dog very healthy, dead in their back yard of a summer day they immediately brought their dog to their local veterinarian, where he was pronounced DOA. The couple was in absolute shock and dismay. They simply could not believe what happens to them. The vet started asking them a series of questions to try to determine what had happened to their dog, and all they could tell him that the dog shows absolutely no signs of being sick, and they were in shock and wanted to know if there was anything the vet can do to determine what happened to their dog. After while they had their beautiful Lab for two years and it was not like he died of old age.
At that time the vet suggested that his recommendation would be to perform an autopsy to try to determine what happened. The couple agreed and wanted to know how long it would take. He told the couple he would go ahead with it and call when it was completed.
Four hours later, the call entered, and he was the vet. He asked if they wanted to come to mind in his office because he wanted to discuss his findings with them and not to do so by phone. Then they said they would be there immediately. They got into their car and went to the office veterinarian, where they were about to take alarming. The vet said the autopsy indicated that their dog had ingested about 4 cups of cocoa mulch, and he believed that was what killed him.
The first thing that came out of their mouth was "Oh my God, we just re-built our house a week ago with this stuff.
The couple has been an absolute shock. They simply could not believe what they had done to beautify their house had just killed their dog Precious.
The owner has to tell the vet, they had absolutely no warning on the bag of cocoa shell mulch indicating he was in no way toxic to animals.
So the vet told them that this was becoming an alarming trend recently, where dogs and other animals have died Following the consumption of this type of mulch. The couple is suddenly gone from being sad to quickly become very angry.
So, the next thing they did when they got home was to call home and garden store where they bought the mulch, leaving the owner knows that this product just instantly killed their dog.
The owner has offered his condolences to them and was very sympathetic to their loss, and said he would immediately withdraw the product from his store and call the manufacturer immediately.
Well it's really something good. 4 weeks later the couple was at their other (will not mention their name) huge house and garden STORE type of deposit (I told you I would not mention their name), and while looking around they notice the same shell mulch cocoa for sale and the bag had no warning thereon. It was the same type of bag they had used, which killed their dog.
They immediately called the manager which came quickly. The process of telling their story and he also offered his sympathy's. He said he would contact the head office and inform them immediately about this, and they tell him what to do about it.
They returned to the store two weeks later to find that they still had the same bags for sale, and that nothing has been done to prevent other dogs, to face death or illness by ingestion of this toxic product.
I will not go into the rest of the history of lawsuits and more, because this is not what this article is about.
However, it is about is simply the irresponsible manufacturers do not put appropriate warnings on products are harmful to our pets and other animals and humans.
One might think that manufacturers of shell mulch cocoa would have the responsibility experience of at least post a warning label on their major newly produced bags, and make stickers available to retailers to comply with the bags, which do not bear the warning label.
This is not the only example of this kind of thing happens in the United States.
Hard to believe, is not it? Not really. Look at all the food recalls pet in the last year alone, and the closure of the Peanut Company in the United States, which provided food for pets based peanut and human consumption. It is totally out of control. And we know watch store.
Beware of dog owners. You may not use this product, but how are you to know that your neighbor is not. And there still may be some bags without their warning labels.
If you think your dog has eaten cocoa mulch or any other toxic substance, contact your veterinarian or the ASPCA's Poison Hotline.
Important Note: mulch Cocoa is made from ground cocoa hulls, which contain caffeine and theobromine. These are two compounds whose dogs are particularly sensitive. These substances are also present in common foods such as bakery, chocolate candy bars. Depending on the size of the dog and the amount of cocoa mulch, it ingests, symptoms include stomach pain to cardiac arrest.
