Fleas are external parasites and not internal parasites such as tapeworms or towards the heart. Look for chips round or oval in shape with tiny legs. They cling to the bodies of dogs and suck their blood.

If you notice or observe that your dogs are themselves scratching very often you should brush hair and see if there are fleas there. If there is a major flea infestation, it should be very clear that you're likely to see some of them drop their body. If this is the case, I strongly suggest taking your dog to the vet for immediate treatment. You will also need to clean the physical environment that your dogs roam around, including their crates and beds.

However, it is likely that you may find a few chips your dog if you have that good grooming. They may have received these chips when they are taken in familiar surroundings for a walk or other dogs they have met outside.

In addition to brushing the dogs with a comb, I always use my two hands to wash the body and I find I am able to detect the chips better. Pay special attention to areas around their neck, groin, legs and Based on their tail. Whenever I feel a little bump, I'm going to part the hair to locate the chip. I'll use a cloth or put a small plastic bag on my hands using it as a glove, to peel off the chip body. So I will use my slipper or sandal to kill fleas. Most of the time you will see the splashes Blood on the chip died. So, if you search the body with your hands regularly, you should be able to detect the possible presence of fleas and ticks, even your dog.

However, you may not be comfortable with brushing and coat chips off the dogs, there are products such as flea collars, spray and shampoo. You may want to use them regularly or periodically as part of your grooming regime. You must read and follow the instructions closely to them to be effective when applied to dogs.

Once I found a little chip on my dogs, I'd do a body search on them daily and at the same time apply a medication like Frontline is very effective in keeping fleas and ticks at bay. I would also check their crates and beds and cleaned daily to ensure there is a clean and chips did not go there to seek refuge. I also use a spray on the surroundings that dogs wander and rest in the house.

For those who live in countries with four seasons, it is found that fleas and ticks breed faster in spring and leading to major infestations in summer. The Fleas can also breed during the cold seasons like autumn and winter because central heating in homes.

If you maintain a healthy diet and regular grooming of your dog, the chances of an infestation of fleas is very thin. However, because your dog may choose one or two chips or dogs when out for walks in the woods, you must be diligent and take immediate action as soon as you have detected the presence of a chip.
