Dog feces matter?

I have a dog that is up there in age (13 years), he seems in great shape, except for symptoms normal aging. stiffness and others. He is very happy, still plays and runs and runs (not bother you at full speed: p). He has stinking breath, quit bad and I suppose his teeth caries, but theres no pain or problems chewing, but my real question is ... He seems to have a black stool, he could Melena be, even if hes totally fine otherwise? wouldnt there be signs of illness? Also, we havnt really fed him something different. The only thing I can think of is pumpkin for constipation that has happened since. Any contribution is appreciated.

It could be a couple things. Renal or gastrointestinal disease ... Your best bet is to take a sample to your vet with your dog and take any extract.
