For English bulldogs to live healthily, it is important that you are aware of health problems they are prone to. Knowledge of these problems health and their treatment and prevention can help any dog owner raise healthier and happier English bulldogs. One health issues which may possibly occur between the English Bulldogs is Eye Cherry.
Unfortunately, dog owners do not know or did not hear of all canine Eye Cherry. Canine Eye Cherry is a condition in which the gland of the third eyelid (nictitating membrane) comes out of position (prolapse) and becomes visible. The gland of the third eyelid is responsible for approximately 30% of the eye tear production. If this gland prolapse, a red mass in the inner corner of eye occurs. This ignited mass, sometimes confused with a tumor, will be irritated and inflamed by contact with a longer period.
Despite its appearance, Eye Cherry is not a painful condition at all. However, immediate action must be taken to eradicate this function remains correct the lacrimal gland is compromised and the eye than May suffer from dryness (keratoconjunctivitis sicca).
Treating Eye Cherry implies general surgery, whether removal of the gland or replacement of the gland. Although this disease is common in English bulldogs and other breeds of dogs such as Boston terriers, cocker spaniels and beagles, some cat breeds such as Burmese and Bombay may also be affected.
