Dog Flu

Breeders and dog owners just need to heed this warning: The dog flu is rising!

Everyone was worried, recently, the virus of swine influenza. We have good reason to be worried. For the first time influenza virus has crossed to affect our beloved dogs and cats! Veterinarians across the United States are preparing for an influx of dogs and cats being hit by a virus called H3N8. Although this particular strain of flu does not seem to be harmful to humans, it can kill dogs and cats.

This particular strain of dog flu has been discovered in Greyhounds in 2003. The strain of influenza raged from 2002-2005 and affected many dogs across the United States whatever the vigilance of dog owners and breeders were. The same virus was the flu extended to 30 states currently. It moves from a disease of horses 40 years ago and remained a killer dog since!

Dr. Kimberly May, the American Veterinary Medical Association, said that the flu virus H3N8 is most often transmitted by dogs when they touch your nose or come into contact with each other. The Dogs can also be infected by humans who may have had contact with a dog who suffers from this disease.

The most common areas being the most affected are dog shows, kennels, dog parks, pet shops and any place where dogs and humans gather together. The farmers are not immune against this deadly dog flu, regardless of how they are vigilant when allowing people to manage their available puppies and dogs. Dr. May says: "This virus can persist for two to four weeks in the environment. Maybe even longer. "

Another veterinarian, Dr. Dean of the Veterinary Hospital of Ridgewood, New Jersey said: "This means that the disease can be spread through contact with Doggie toys, clothing and own hands. "Many people may even think that their puppy or dog came down with parvo virus when in fact they may suffer bird dog. Tamiflu has been flying off the shelves since the swine flu has become evident here in the United States. Some dog owners and ranchers know that Tamiflu works very well for dogs that have been infected by bird dog.

Your dog may experience or Kitty as follows:

1. Sneezing

2. Cough

3. Fever

4. Runny

5. Loose stools

6. Lack of appetite

These symptoms can last from two to four weeks. Symptoms progress if the dog is not diagnosed and treated. The virus can kill your dog. The virus dog flu, H3N8, does not discriminate! It can affect dogs of all breeds all ......... .... ages and are more sensitive Pets and animals above very young. Those with existing health problems are at risk as well and of course they are more risk if they are already sick and elderly. Even if you can help reduce risk by having your dogs and puppies and kittens vaccinated Remember that this virus is as much that can still occur regardless of vaccinations.

Anyone with a dog or cat should take extra precautions when you allow others to treat their pets. Be careful where you take your pet for walks. If you own a kennel or a breeder, you'll want your policy to enhance handling. The only way we can truly protect our pets to die from the virus that continues to get stronger and stronger each year, is to stay vigilant and stay alert to ensure our animals are vaccinated and keep us updated on new strains emerging every year!
