What a good gift for a friend who takes care of my dog while I'm on vacation?

We are close friends at work, but do not want to take too often outside of work. It has allowed my 6 pounds Pomerania to stay with her (and her fiance and their dog) for 5 days then my husband and I go on vacation in San Francisco. I want to give something thoughtful, since I offered to pay her and she said "absolutely not!" What is the appropriate thank you gift? A gift card? Homemade baked goods?

How about something that appeals to the interests of his family? Perhaps a gift card in a cozy restaurant (more "designer-dog cookies in your dog their own) ship may be some Seafood Fisherman's Wharf (as packed in ice and shipped the next day) while you're in SF or something Chinatown? or reverse something - like the Haight-Ashbury (a la The Grateful Dead or Janis Joplin or the Merry Pranksters, etc.) but certainly something that appeals to their interests - That way they'll be remembered as a great - and grateful - Ami.
