The Chow Chow is an ancient breed from China. He is considered one of the oldest pure breeds and representations are found in Chinese sculpture as far back as 1000 BC It may be that is causing most of Spitz-type breeds. The Chow Chow is often reduced to a word, the Chow. It has been used in China as a guard and hunting dog and held in great favor in imperial courts. The Chow has been a race populated China and was also raised as a food source.

The Chow Chow is shown in the non-sporting group in the ring with the United States. The dress is red, blue, beige or black, with variations of light and darkness in these colors, and never with white markings. There are two varieties the dress, the "rough" or long-coated and "smooth" or short film. Both layers are dense and double.

Most Chow Chow distinctive feature is the color of the tongue, which should always be blue-black in color. The pigment of the lips and gums should also be the color blue black. The Chow Chow has deep wrinkles in his forehead, which seemed "frown" or "sullen" and this expression is another distinctive feature that is part of the breed standard.

The tail curls on the upper back. The shoulders and neck of the Chow should be large strawberries, apparently, it should be like the mane of a lion and the legs in front and the back should be strong " feathers "with longer hair on the back legs. Chows need to be regularly maintained, the coat will become dull and impossible to care so they are left abandoned.

The general appearance of Chow should be that of a nearly "square" dog, chest deep and the lion-like look around his head and neck. It has a little "stiff" to running almost constantly in nature. It should move with deliberation and offers a magnificent spectacle in the ring.

The Chow Chow has a distinct character. It's a dog that displays a degree of independence and often seem not to "need" of human companionship. A person who goes to buy a Chow needs to study this race and decide whether or not it is the race for him. They are universally considered a "one man, one family" dog. They must be socialized well early in their life because they are stand-fish "and do not fawn over people or attention to the request.

They are rather aloof and dignified and does not accept foreigners. A well bred and well educated Chow Chow should not show aggression towards people. They are good watchdogs, establishment of a bark to warn foreigners and are dedicated and loyal to their immediate family or owner. Chows aggressive are usually the product of irresponsible breeding or irresponsible owners and are not representatives of the type of character Chow should have.
