The Dogo Argentino is the result of painstaking efforts of the brothers Martinez in 1920 in Argentina to produce hunting and working dog ideal. They wanted the dog have the characteristics a loyal guard dog that would protect their cattle, their land and lives of their owners, "the dangerous game natives such as wild boar, puma, mountain lion.

They took as their starting point the Cordoba fighting dog, then the most popular dog hunting in Argentina - Cordoba is a cross between Spanish mastiff and bull fighting. Over nearly 30 years the brothers gradually mixed in 10 other races to produce the Dogo Argentino with the characteristics they had identified as being the right type.

These included the greyhound races, the Boxer, British bulldog bullterrier and the pointer, the Spanish mastiff, the Pyrenees, Great and others, and each was chosen for a particular attribute - Resistance, power, powerful jaws, scenting ability, speed, white blouse, endurance etc etc.

The Dogo is a hunter natural. She has an innate instinct to hunt and kill wild boars and mountain lions alone. It resembles the wolf in that they consider the food of other animals, and will kill and eat them. In their natural habitat, the Dogo is often not offered food for dogs, but are expected to eat his share of any prey that managed to catch.

There is no dog more devoted or loyal to its owner. So farmers must be particularly attentive to which animal they spend very powerful and formidable.

This training hard and potentially violent animals can present problems individuals. The Dogo needs a master who will deal firmly and consistently, avoiding any heavy-handed approach.

Obedience training is essential for the puppy, and most trainers and breeders choose to print Young Dogo from 6 weeks -- This is done so that the puppy will consider humans as prey, or food, essential if they are to be used as guard dogs in any what capacity.

Even if they are not printed, they will still show natural aggression towards humans as to any other animal when they perceive a potential threat to their rule, territory or food. So if you own a Dogo never let it run freely in public, or you may having real problems with other animals - or humans!
