The Australian Terrier is a working terrier with a compact body and small, but robust. Its body is considerably longer than high. The ears are erect without trend to flare off the head and tail cut. The Australian Terrier is a loyal and devoted dog that is hardy, intelligent, courageous, always Animated, with senses alive.

He is very affectionate with his owners and is usually reserved for foreigners. This breed is quick, easy to live, but voluntary, and makes a great watchdog. His vigilance combined with speed makes him an excellent ratter. He likes to please and work obedience.

Moreover, because of his terrier instinct, he can be stubborn and difficult to train. His attention is easily distracted by distractions, especially for a small animal or a person wandering into his territory. It responds well to firm early and specific training methods.

Roughhousing could encourage a bite alarm and should not be permitted. Spoiling this breed encourages an authoritarian and stubborn because that, like most dogs, it will spoil interpreted as recognition of its dominant position.

He tends to bark or dig incessantly if is left alone too long. The Australian Terrier has a high prey drive toward small animals like cats and rabbits. He has no health problems serious and should live a happy 14 years.

Size: The Australian Terrier stands 10-11in at the shoulder and weighs between 10 and 18 pounds.

History and origin: The Australian Terrier was first used in 19th century Australia as a ratter, snake killer, and watchdog. It is suggested that this race has been developed from the progeny of a female Yorkshire Terrier smuggled aboard a sailboat and connected to a dog resembling a Cairn Terrier.

He was known under various names until 1889, when a club was formed in Melbourne to promote the race.

Food: The recommended diet for the Australian Terrier is about 1.5 cans of high quality meat (13.3 ounces size) with biscuit added in similar amount or 1 1.5 cups of a dry track.

Fat is an essential ingredient for the dog to maintain a healthy coat, whether its meal has a low fat content, add a teaspoon of corn oil to his service every day.

Exercise: An ideal place for this race is a lively fenced yard with plenty of space for him to run around. On the other hand, it can adapt to apartment living provided that it is up several times a day.

Grooming: This breed has a weather resistant coat that is harsh and straight with a soft undercoat. Excretion is minimal, as the level of maintenance. Regular grooming with a bristle brush will stimulate the skin and promote good growth layer.
