Help my dog barking?

My husband and I have a 3 years old schnauzer / pug mix who barks when the "intruder" just in the house. This should be good, right? Well, this is the exception because it did every time someone comes. Or if left alone, he barks at the slightest noise, he hears, as the face or voice in another room. We are moving into a new apartment on Friday and we fear he barks when we left. Of Suggestions? We really do not want to use anti-bark collars. He did a little better now that we have had him as a friend (our Daschund), but we believe that continues to bark to alert us. However, it does not stop unless we are close to the cage and tell him to stop. It works, except when must leave. Suggestions? Thank you!

Stop your dog before he starts to bark. You have to work with the dog for a few days with a friend who is ready. If he does not bark at everything you need to walk your dog. Not for 3 minutes as usual. I spoke with a half-hour at least at a good pace. ... And you keep your dog ... in a cage ........??? What the hell's the point of even having a dog if you put in a cage?
