As your dog ages, you will witness significant differences in him and physically. Their teeth begin to wear out and will change color. Their eyes may begin to change color as well and begin to appear gray or blue. The tone of their muscle will decrease and they will not be able to move as quickly and easily as if he could. Because dogs are often as part of the family, you want to be able to look after them as best you can and in a manner that the dog continues to know a good quality of life. You want to make sure you are very careful and you watch them closely. Study them and see if they start act differently, or if they appear to be in pain. It is more important than ever to visit record on a regular basis so that your veterinarian can identify serious problems. You may want to do it as often as twice each year. These examinations must include a blood test.

If you are not sure what warning signs to look for as your dog gets older, consider the following list.

-Your dog may have more difficulty urinating
The saddle-your dog suddenly is very loose or contain blood
-Your dog May begin using the toilet in the house
-Your dog may appear weak in the region of the leg or have a difficult time walking, running or sitting
-The coat of your dog may begin to look dry, flake or lose fur
-Your dog may begin to have a difficult time eating and digesting food.
-Your dog may show behavioral changes. They may be more cranky then usual.
-Your dog may start coughing
-Your dog may begin to have difficulty hearing
-Your dog suddenly becomes easily worked

Much dogs, as they age, begin to suffer from heart disease and kidney. They begin to have problems with their teeth and perhaps even their thyroid. If a dog is able to get plenty of good care, he can live long enough, even 15 years. However, this will be different based on their race. Dogs that are spayed or neutered tend to live longer. Some breeds of dogs such as poodles, Airedale Terrier and Cocker Spaniels May live up to 20 years or more. Again, it depends on the breed, the individual dog and how they are supported.
