For Dog Only

Naming your pet should be easy, but people often make it very difficult and stress over. I had many pets and the name has never been a problem, but has often been a lot of fun. Here are some basics.

Do not name the animal you do not! Do not choose a name for a pet that you get as it might not fit. For example, you could choose a name of "Buster" for the bulldog or you'll get a name of "Missy" for kittycat you plan just to learn that they do not work. Your Bulldog may be more of a Leonardo or Chad, and Butch and Bob might be a more appropriate name for your cat.

Think twice before using names. I friend named her cat after a former girlfriend of mine. Another friend named his dog after me. Both were fun, but not good long-term names. Do you really want to name your dog after your grandfather or your dead canary after your wife died? Think twice.

Choose a name you want. Your pet will not care and there is no other company. Your pet, your name, is the basic rule.

Remember that you can always use a nickname if you wish. I'm Harold, but always called Harry. My uncle was called Throckmorton Uncle Butch. You can also change the name of a pet if the original name does not work. This is not like changing the name of a child, you can just do it! My mother in laws dog came with the misnomer of Greta. Greta Frank is now a much more appropriate name for her.
