The Somali is an intelligent and playful cats for those who love long haired cats, this may be the breed for you. Somalis are descendants of the Abyssinian cat breed, and have many similar traits. Abyssinian litters saw the birth of long-haired cats for many generations and in the 1960s, a Canadian breeder idea of coming with a new breed of kittens. He appealed to Somalia and their popularity spread rapidly in the United States and Europe. This race has been developed from the Abyssinian and they were known as long-haired Abyssinian.

A very distinguishing feature of these cats are the marks on the face that are often described as the heavy stage makeup. The eyes look like they were highlighted with kohl and around the ring Black is a ring of blond hair. Thus the effect is that of a cat with glasses. The body has a head shaped wedge with large ears, a muscular body, a long bushy tail and very expressive eyes. This is a race that is found in colors like chocolate, red, blue, lilac, red, sorrel, cream color, beige, with reasons tabby silver tabby or tortoiseshell.

These cats are very trainable which are happiest when they have something to play with. The toy may be a paper bag or a small toy. They can do all the things that we would train dogs because, like going search paper, walk on a leash and come when called or they are just as happy to pet on your lap for new o clock six years. If you plan to be absent for most of the day, then get a companion for your little Somali Lonely as a Somali can really get unhappy.

Grooming is both a matter of weeks because they have a medium length coat which needs a good brushing to keep it tangle free and unmatted and this is particularly around the tail and the ruff around the neck like in this case the hair is longer. If time is a problem, then get a cat short hair as a Somali tangled hair is not a Somali happy. These cats keep healthy enough and the only thing to consider is that may have a problem with hairballs occasionally. Check with your local veterinarian for food control hairballs.

Somalia is a very family oriented cat and people who love cats are very happy with these as pets as they make very good pets. There are races that are very good but do not do very well when trained and kept in a home, but not the Somalis. These cats are intelligent and playful the good race for a cat loving family.
