Boxer Health Concerns Dog Breed

I am very interested in getting a boxer in the near future and expressed some concerns about the health of the race. From what I read, the boxers are very prone to cancer about 8 years and I would like to own a dog saw more than 8-9 years. I was wondering if you can reduce risk by choosing a dog whose parents do not suffer from cancer? Are there ways to keep your assets safe and a boxer life of 10 + years?
Yes, the boxer breed is prone to health problems, many of which can be avoided by finding a breeder official who is truly a better reproduction of the race. Spend time researching your breeder, you may need to go on a waiting list for a litter. Make sure they reproduce according to the code of ethics, testing for heart, hip and thyroid problems, not just of "veterinary checks." They should be showing in conformation or at least be able to speak to defects in dogs and their purpose reproduction. In addition, feed them a diet of high quality can improve even more life and longevity of your pets. Research croquettes natural or holistic, or to research first. If you find the right breeder, they are able and willing to help you find the best nutrition for your pet too. Visit American Boxer Club. They have great boxer specific health information and wading through some of the myths. http://www.americanboxerclub.org/ethics.html Good luck in your search.
