French Ring Sport is a sports guard dog, a little like Schutzhund KNPV or exercises, but unique in its own name. The sport involves a number of tests designed to test both the dog and his handler. The exercises include jumps, fences, research and tests of obedience, and mouthfuls of work using a decoy dressed in a special French Ring bite. The decoy is considered an active opponent of the dog and will make its best to confuse, annoy or otherwise interfere with the formation and character of the dog. The German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, Doberman Pinscher and Rottweiler breeds are The most common use in French Ring.

However, a list of other medium to large breeds are allowed to participate provided that they are now the challenge.
