Border Collie

Border Collies are bred to be dog breeding and this is only a minor feature. The herd instinct of the breed is what it is! As our Border Collie was growing up he quickly began to "flock" My wife and I with our reading of the race, we were ready, however, actually not have a full appreciation of the seriousness of this behavior until we got to experience firsthand. The first manifestation of this was following closely behind Ned us like a dog snapping at his heels. This quickly turned into what we have come to call "The Border Collie Butt Poke". It took time and correction consistent around this behavior, but it was not easy!
The Poke Butt is just what it sounds like ... the damn dog began to put us in the back! Typically it would happen immediately after he walked in the door and walked quickly to somewhere in the house (as when nature is calling - Enter the house, walk past the dog and head directly to the bathroom). Ned will follow closely behind us and then stand, not really jump, and jab nose firmly in our ass! The first time this happened got a heck of a startled cry of women. While doing this, do not try to bite or cut us, without But I heard that this can happen with some Border Collie so be aware of this.
Never hit or yell at our dog (you will not good with a Border Collie anyway) to once more after reading the book some training, we have a pretty decent system to stop this. We would like attract the conduct intentionally give him a little excited throughout the game and then walk quickly for him. As soon as he began to follow closely, and before I had the opportunity to mess with us, he would stop dead in our tracks, turn around, firmly tell him "No." then ask lay down. After that it was walking next to him quickly once or twice and then rewards you for not prosecuting or prick with a treat or two. This behavior did not stop overnight. It took time but we must be aware and always ready.
After getting the message that should not put my wife or me in the ass began to make the guest house (now that shame!). We used more or less the same tactic to solve this behavior. We had to note that this is not a random annoying behavior, but an instinct ingrained in the border Collie. You simply can not train the instinct of dogs and Therefore you must redirect the energy into something else (like a trick, or fix, or do you go for a ball, or whatever). As time passed Butt Poke would do less and less. This is something to be ready when you are considering a Border Collie puppy!
William and his wife are Border Collie owners with a great appreciation for the breed. He shares his experiences at BorderCollieHelp.com as well as videos of the tricks his dog has learned so far.
