We believe that Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is the largest of the descendants of the dogs were brought in the Swiss Alps by the legions of Caesar on his march across Europe. The "Swiss" is similar to the Bernese Mountain dog in many ways, including the marking of a layer of black background with white spots and tan. The Swiss owners can even use the large dog and happy to take their own children or children of a neighbor in a cart and the dog is a therapy dog also popular. His short coat also makes him a keeper "easy" as far as coat care, (as opposed some of the other races that draw the carts but have many more questions than grooming Swiss.)

It has an even temper and a love for children, families and all others. It is a friendly and affectionate dog with a stable temperament and a desire to please people, altogether it is a dog who learns quickly with an enthusiastic attitude and still Placid and a calm way. It is a race that has become a favorite families who have had the pleasure of owning one.
