When you've brought your puppy home he probably jumped on you, your shins scratched, or has conducted a similar 2-feet off the maneuver field in an attempt to attract your attention. If you're like most owners of pets, you immediately stroked the animal, cooed to him or lifted. Good for the owner to calm the animal awards unwittingly that problem and encourages the dog to repeat. Like children, dogs repeat behaviors that are rewarding for them and avoid behaviors that are not rewarding.

What's cute when the dog is a puppy of eight books can turn into a dangerous problem and annoying as they become older and heavier weight. There nothing cute about a fifty-pound dog jumping on you. The owners call us often confused they can not stop their dog jump high. In the meantime, children and grandparents are invited and rolled into the house is injured or contaminated by dirty paws and nails sharp. When we receive the call for help, the owners have had their guests have long since stopped coming to their home, and doors for children safety reasons and different animals.

There are many ways to train a dog to unlearn behaviors jump and in most cases it requires a combination of several techniques. Your dog trainer will discuss various options with you and identify tools that will most successful for your pet. In all cases, however, recycling begins at home with two fundamental principles:

1. Completely ignoring a dog jumping on you. Do not talk to the dog, touch or give her eye contact. Just turn back and leave.
2. Give the dog a secondary behavior to make such as sitting for your attention.

These two principles provide the ground rules for the animal and that the remark that the jump does work harder to attract your attention. It also sets up for success for the most advanced techniques, you will need to change this behavior.

If you have a desk or table-surf, they were also rewarded for their leap ... usually by obtaining a delicious snack! Surfers at the counter and table are motivated to repeat this behavior because something yummy awaits them each time they jump.

For surfers, the environmental control is the first step of conversion. Never leave food, toys or products your dog is caught within their reach. The basic rule is, if made available to him is fair game. Your dog trainer will help you identify where appropriate, advanced techniques required to change this behavior as well.

Some additional tips for success:

1. Never use your hands to push a dog off of you or a surface. While this attention is negative, it still offers attention to the dog. In addition, you may teach your dog to fear hands.
2. Be indulgent with the dog and with yourself. Jumping is correctable, but once that your dog has learned this behavior, it generally takes a professional dog trainer to help eliminate this behavior.

The goal of any training dog to find peaceful solutions to everyday problems so that pets and their owners live harmoniously.
