German shepherd dog also known as Alsace, France, Britain and Ireland, most commonly in France as "Berger Allemand" Schäferhund and by the acronym GSD or simply German Shepherd. This dog breed is originally bred for sheep farming. German shepherds are one of the most popular breeds in the United Kingdom with 12,857 registrations and also in the U.S. with 43,575 records. These breeds are best for working as guide dogs for the blind work, police, surveillance, search and rescue, treatment and the military. German Shepherds can also make loyal and loving pets inside the house. These dogs are social and need to puppies youth to prevent aggressive and dangerous behavior is an adult.

The breed standards vary by country and organization. The definition German shepherd dog usually is big and strong dog between 75 and 110 pounds but can reach 150 + lbs. Males reach height of 24-26 inches (60-65cm) and women come at the height of 22-24 inches (55-60). The dog has a double layer under coat and outer layer of skin. The short-haired dogs are preferred, while some organizations accept long-haired German shepherd. The layers of these are in black with tan, sable or all black, but they also come in blue, liver and white, which is considered a lack according to most standards. White is not acceptable for the German shepherd and is now recognized as a separate breed known as American White Shepherd. The nose is usually black, but blue or liver sometimes occurs, and considered a failure.

The body of German shepherd dogs are elongated, robust, muscular and with a structure light but solid bone. The head should be proportionate to the body and head slightly convex. The ears are wide at the base, pointed, upright and turned forward, but the puppies under six months can be tilted slightly. The eyes are almond shaped, dark with an intelligent expression, cheerful, but never excel. The tail is bushy and reach the hocks and hangs up when at rest. The front legs and shoulders are muscular and the legs are thick and sturdy. The feet are round with suns. There are three varieties of German Shepherd. They are rough-coated, long rough-coated and long Hared.

German Shepherd dogs are used as working that are direct and fearless, eager and alert. The dog is known for his bravery and loyalty to their masters. They are confident, but not hostile, high learning capacity, serious almost human in their intelligence and obedient. They bark, if necessary, and love to be near their families.
